Can you suggest some big auditoriums in Pune that have a capacity of 500+, and that are used for hosting conferences/presentations/talks?

I am aware of the commercial ones - Bal Gandharva Ranga Mandir, Tilak Smarak Mandir, Yashwant Rao Chavan Natya Griha, Nehru Memorial Hall. Please don't add them as answers.

I am specifically looking at educational/research institutions and large companies that have such facilities.

(e.g. Persistent System's Dewang Mehta Auditorium, IUCAA's Auditorium --> However DO NOTE THAT both these have a capacity of less than 500)

Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), Aundh Baner Rd. Do they have a auditorium large enough? I believe it can be a good venue.

If you want more, badminton can take upto 3500 ;)

Apart from these Symbiosis Vishwabhawan is also around 700+ seater

Let's look at the criteria:

  • Can deal with the weather cusp in October: end of monsoon, beginning of October heat
  • Ample parking
  • Allows good flow of attendees
  • Service entrances
  • Supports catering: Tea/Snacks, Lunch, Tea/Snacks
  • Can accommodate VIP security (preparing for a wildly successful event :-)
  • Entry can be effectively restricted (too distracting if people keep going in-out)
  • TED stage and technology guidelines can be met
  • As eco-friendly as possible
  • Can accommodate 350-1000 guests IN the ENCLOSED Area
  • As refreshingly unconventional as possible
  • Low ambient noise or good sound-proofing
  • Can accommodate outdoor crowd OUTSIDE the ENCLOSED Area

I don't know if i have missed/violated any of TED venue criteria.

Given all this, it would be fabulous if we could hold it outdoors, in a natural setting, somewhat remote (we can bus people there to reduce carbon footprint) etc. There are loads of such spots around the city.

COEP (Govt. College of Engg. Pune) Auditorium is great for such events. I believe it is about 700+ capacity. Good soundproofing and technical support.

Hemant - Can you confirm the seating capacity? I thought it was much smaller. Thanks.

(05 Mar '10, 09:49) Amit Paranjape ♦♦

I passed out some 20 years back. Had been to college only for few hours last month. Someone recently passed out has to confirm this. I will try and get hold of one and publish.

Symbiosis international school, Viman nagar has a nice auditorium for such events. But I am not sure about its seating capacity. My guess is it would be around 400-500. And it has ample parking space.

Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies SIMS near Range Hills - not too far, not too close from the city. Not sure about the capacity, but looks big enough for a corporate event.

P.S.- Seminar/Conference Hall: 75.74349442 sqm mentioned on their website.
