Is there a place in pune where i can get my dell inspiron laptop cleaned ?

I have been some significant overheating issues with my dell laptop since the past few months. Its been almost 2 years since i bought it. It worked fine for the first 1.5 years. Now a days, if the cpu usage is high enough(>90%) for a few minutes, it will shut down immediately as the temperature shoots up above 85 degree C. I suspect there is dust in the heat vent and cpu fan. What could be the other reasons ?

Interestingly I had a overheating issue with my Inspiron 1525 laptop in the last couple of months (its been about 15-16 months since I bought it). The overheating used to happen near the touchpad + keyboard and it was difficult to keep the laptop on the lap after about 1-2 hours of usage :).

My service contract with DELL was of course over after 12 months. And I am aware that calling a technician from DELL would be expensive. So I setout to solve the problem (if possible) myself!

After looking around it looked like a common problem that many have faced. Here is the URL where I found the solution:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1525/en/SM/cpucool.htm#wp1179839

NOTE: I tried exactly what is mentioned in this site myself. It was VERY simple to do. After opening the laptop I found a huge amount of lint/dust accumulated near the heat sink. Removed it!

And since then my laptop is back to normal and cool as a cucumber :) !

Do you have an extended warranty on your DELL (i.e. > 1 year)? If not you will need to call their customer support (1800- 425- 4026 or 080-2506-8026) and register a paid support call. I think their paid support is Rs.1,500/- per call. However, they are prompt.

My laptop's warranty period is already over. What is the process? Will they collect the laptop from me, clean it and deliver it back ?

or will they send a person to my place and clean it there itself ?

No, they will register the complaint and then send service personnel to your house. They will correct the problem in front of you (at least thats what my experience was).

DELL has designated service centers in every city (including Pune) where they have personnel trained on the available laptop models.

First, you will need to call them and register your complaint. They may ask your service tag no. etc. from which they can figure out your laptop config (if it was bought in India).

Dell gives service through Wipro in Pune.
I have called them once for my laptop panel connector problem.

It was quite a good experience (except for my pocket).
The service person came equipped, opened the system in my presence, checked the connectors, confirmed they were just loose and not broken, fixed them and went off. All in about an hours time.

My laptop was out-of-warranty at that time.

You could call up the customer service numbers and tell them about your case.
I expect them to tell you upfront the service visit charges and a possible need to take away your laptop for servicing if necessary.

I think you could discuss with them removal of your hard-drive if the laptop hardware is going to be serviced.

I am sure this would be better than trying any local service people for Dell laptops.
Unless you know someone from say your school who has opened and cleaned systems before, or you trust yourself to be good with that. I clean up my home PC regularly, right up to the processor and fan setup but leave the laptop to their service -- works fine actually, had to call them just once in about 6+ years.
