When there is a traffic accident in which a person is involved or if one is a witness, is there a police contact no. specifically meant for such situations? Does a cop arrive quickly? Or does one need to go to the nearest police station and register a complaint? |

020-2612-2880 020-2612-6296 these are the police control room numbers. tried and tested If one dials any of the above numbers you mentioned in your response, does that reach the traffic division? How is their response - prompt?

I believe that the easiest to do is the third option: go to the nearest police station and register a complaint. But, especially if the accident is minor, then another option that you should really, really consider is this - just forget the whole thing. If you are the victim, and can afford to pay for the damages yourself, just do it. If you have caused the accident, and if you can resolve the matter by paying the other person cash on the spot, do so and get out of there. In minor traffic accidents, money is the cheapest thing you can afford to lose. All other options are, in my opinion, worse. You could end up spending lots of time, non-trivial amounts of money, and in some cases worse, by getting involved in anything involving police or courts. It's just not worth it. Navin, your principles are mostly right when the tradeoff is time vs money. What though would one do, if the accident is relatively major? Unfortunately, accident rules/law-enforcement in India is very poor. Mostly (read 99%) people try and avoid 3rd party insurance claims - does that ever happen at all?
