I have recently had a good experience with online book purchases from flipkart.
I also second Dr. Bhooshan on savings with online orders.

  1. What on-line bookstores do you use for ordering books in Pune?, and
  2. What are your experiences with their quality-of-service
(prices, delivery, support interaction and need for support).

There are a couple of related questions here,
Online Shopping Sites in Pune and Online Marathi Book Store

Would be glad if you gave an opinion from first-hand experience
(or, maybe from someone you know who has ordered online in Pune).

Update: I am summarizing the list as it forms in the answers here.
When there are votes, I'll try to keep the list ordered by votes.
If the votes very clearly push a few places up I'll probably remove this list.

  1. Flipkart
  2. Laxmiroad.in
  3. www.IndiaPlaza.in
  4. www.CB-India.com -- seems more focused at tech books
(but, might deliver other books too)
  5. FirstAndSecond
  6. BookAdda
  7. Pustak -- Banglore based, may be a little slow in delivery
  8. Infibeam Books
  9. Rediff Books

Do you mean any online bookstore that delivers books to Pune? Or are you looking for Pune specific bookstores?

(13 Mar '10, 13:51) Subhojit Roy

@subhojit, I mean online stores that are good for delivering books to pune addresses.

(13 Mar '10, 16:42) nik ♦

If you are not looking for Pune specific online stores only, you could try www.indiaplaza.in. I have used it several times and they have never failed me in delivering the correct set of books (mostly on time). They also have good discounts online. Example: I bought Asterix Comics etc. from their online store and those prices were MUCH lower than what is available in Crosswords or others stores in Pune.

I am looking for online stores suitable for ordering to Pune. It does not matter where they are located as long as they deliver to pune addresses without any extra charges.

try http://www.indiaplaza.in as I suggested above. They have delivered to my Pune address several times. Each time, no complaints. Also, I have gotten the books at good discounts.

I have had good experience with http://www.cb-india.com/ it is a mumbai based store. Delivery in reasonable time and they have good collection of books. You can also request for specific books.

Looks like a good place however it seems to be exclusively for Computer related books. I was looking towards a more general book shop. There are some ads on general books but the categories are computers specific. Have you got any non-technical books from them?

(15 Mar '10, 02:22) nik ♦

No I haven't got any non-tech books from them. For that you can try firstandsecond they have a good collection.

There is bookadda.com. It is bangalore based and is similar to flipkart. I have found flipkart to be very reasonable in price and shipping is also fast.

Check with Pune based http://laxmiroad.in

Through this website, you can order books online from a few top bookstores in Pune like Popular Book House, Deccan Gymkhana and Varma Book Store, Appa Balwant Chowk.

@Abhinav, I referred to the Marathi book question link only to say that its another question on getting books online in Pune. What has been your experience with FirstAndSecond store?

(16 Mar '10, 08:11) nik ♦

Flipkart is good. But for last few months I have been using Rediff shoppings book facility.

http://books.rediff.com/

I have found them to have lower rates and plus the delivery is free. They have books from several sellers (similar to Amazon) so one does get cheaper books.

For recent order I got the book at Rs. 270 while in flipkart it was rs. 325.

I can vouch for Flipkart & Pustak.co.in (sometimes Pustak charges less but takes more time to deliver than Flipkart). I've been hearing good reviews for Infibeam too.
