Few question which popped up in my mind.

Did you searched any open source python project which you can contribute to?
If yes, what were/are the problems which you are facing because of which you are not going ahead with it.
Have you short-listed your domain in which you would like to work in? e.g. Web development, scientific computing, automating tasks, etc.

Providing more details will help in answering the query more precisely.
