Where can I find information about Biofertilizer pit? I have heard that PMC health department provides you with basic information however I want to find out the information online.

Also what kind of plastic bags should be used that we can put it in this pit directly. So that these bags can be used collect the vegetable garbage.

I guess that you are developing a home-garden. It would be nice of you if you publish your learning/research somewhere. We soon be undertaking home-garden development and could leverage from that knowledge :) .

A number of persons made a presentation and a biref is given below thinking you may wish to contact some of them for furtehr information.

INORA - Mrs. Nutan hajekar

  • Talked about their creation of many centtres witht he help of PRAJ in several areas [ Deccan, Camp, Shaniwar, Model colony etc]
  • about the options they can provie - composting, vermi-compost , cityfarming [ i.e grwoing medium sized trees in large plastic drums, etc. SHAH JYOTI - SAVENATURE - 94223 33155
  • Talked of a simple way or using pots - one pot per day for a household wet garbage i.e 7 pots in all. She uses biosanitizer of Bhawalkar for initial activation

SARDESHPANDE JYOTSNA MRS. 2445 2207 --- 94220 15698

  • Talked of a very nice initiative by the Model colony ward where ALL wet garbage will be processed into bio-gas which will be used for street lighting. This is expected to be operational by 15th August 2009.Certainly worth visiting.

DR. ANAND KARVE - ARTI

  • They have a simpletechnology to convert garden waste into powdered coal
    • coal sticks as fuel
    • an efficient cooker which takes 100 gm of such candy coal for one time cooking. he said 50000 such units ahve been exported and they are setting up operations in Tanzania and uganda
  • Bio-gas from houshold waste. The fermentation rates are at least 100 times faster than molassess. They are now designing 2.5 M diam gas holder [ The earlier syntex size is too wide - 4 ft to come into a house or ona balcony]. This will become available very shortly and then one can use tif ro huseehold use.

I second INORA - they have been working in this field for quite sometime. Had taken classes with them about 12-15 years ago. They will also get you contacts for getting earth worms.
