Here's another crowd sourcing experiment! I know Punekars have strong opinions about the 'best' Misal in town. Please list your answers below (Please list a separate answer for each recommended place...that way, it can be voted up or down).

You can get best misal by getting out of Pune ;-). Seriously. IMO, most of the misals in Pune are highly overrated, including Bedekar, Katta Kirr (Garware College), Ramnath (Tilak Road) and Krishna Bhuvan (Tulshibaug). But in Pune, these might be the best you can have.

Misal is best had where it was invented - in Kolhapur. Best places to have it there are Fadtare and Hotel Opal.

Probably the best misal in West Maharashtra is Mamledar's in Thane. Just out of this world. They have a 3-scale misal - hot, super-hot and ultra-hot, but the hotness never overpowers the taste.

BTW, here are 60 places for having good-to-decent misal in Maharashtra (in Devanagari):

Hi, Interesting Poll.

1) In Pune, "Katakirr" on Karve road, is the proper misal. It can be a benchmark for others to follow, how a misal should be... 2) "Nisarg" on Kalewadi fata, Is best of all Misal's in Pune, I bet you all - you have it once and you are bound to forget all other "so-called-famous-but-actually-sweet-misals-in-peth-areas". 3) On Pune-A.nagar Highway (towards A.nagar) "Hotel Sanjay" near Ranjangaon. The Misal, Kanda and Rassa is very different than what we get in Pune. the Tea served here is not only different but also very refreshing! Try once and u will realise.

Saurabh, can you list this as three separate answers, so that they can be voted upon separately? Thanks.

In approval to Ankur's Answer. (bcos i couldnt find how to comment below his post and vote for it?)

Ankur, i subscribe to ur opinion completely.

if u ve read my answer posted on 10th of Dec 09, i have written similar, we can really get best misal out of Pune only, but in the list which every1 talks about in Pune, "Katakirr" is certainly the best.

i have recommended places out of Pune, but which are in the vicinity, Listing again--- and u try it, i know u will love them

1) Hotel Nisarg, Kalewadi fata, (on way towards Chinchwad) Apprx. 14km. 2) Hotel Sanjay, Saradwadi, Near Ranjangaon, Approx. 50-55km

Thanks.

Without a doubt Krishna Bhuvan Misal in Tulshibaug. You will feel like you have travelled back in time when you are there. Chat up with the owner (kaka) and he can regale you with his stories of how his misal has found its way to California and other places around the world. Map Location: http://www.sadakmap.com/a/U3
