What are your picks for nice quiet restaurants (not too much rush) where a romantic evening can be spent with wife/gf?

Some very good suggestions. Thank you all. I will try to cover most of them as I think will others. No doubt each place suggested is unique in one or many ways but considering proximity to the city and reasonable cost I am marking up and above as the answer also Gaia suggested by a few also satisfies my answer but I m not sure if I can mark 2 answers together. – Abhinav S Dec 13 at 17:02

Can everyone also put up budget for each of the places you are mentioning?

not sure if its still open or not, but River view is also a good option.

I also liked up and above. They have couples balcony from where entire pune city is visible. Food is not so great there though. Very much with in budget.

+1 for Up-n-Above... Nice place for couples to have candlelight dinner (little congested though). Budget around Rs. 700~800 for two. Try Chicken Hot pan and Sizzling Brownie. – Mandar Shinde Dec 11 at 7:05
-1 for Up-n-above: Romantic ambiance but my personal experience of food quality there is not so encouraging. Other nearby option is Oasis (especially for candle light dinners) and Ambrosia. – Shekhar Dec 12 at 17:18

I recently stayed at Oakwood Premier Hotel, Has a excellent restaurant called senses on the ground floor. Very romantic and excellent food.

Check it out.

Cost for 2 person would be around Rs.1800

+1 for senses. liked the food, and the decor (with real fires) was nice – Navin Kabra Dec 11 at 3:22
+1 for Senses. Nice eclectic menu. – Amit Paranjape Dec 17 at 17:03

Gaia - Kharadi Mundhwa side. (Ph: 27010050) It is a multi cuisine restaurant. I would recommend the Indian cuisine dishes because they are excellent. For a romantic evening you can book their tree house restaurant overlooking the river.

They have live band playing over the weekend so your idea of 'quiet' may not be satisfied. But during the weekdays you can definitely try it.

Average cost for 2 would come up to Rs. 1300-1400.

Duke's Retreat Lonavala (actually Khandala). You can reach there in 50 minutes if you don't hit the Hinjewadi traffic. And dinner/snacks with a view of the valley is pretty neat.

Plus, I'm told, a "spontaneous" 'Let's go to Khandala for the evening' gets a lot of romance brownie points.

I don't remember how much it costs, but it's obviously a little on the higher side.

Fort Jadhavgadh is a old small Maratha fort converted to a 5-star hotel. It is about an hour away from Pune in the middle of nowhere, but makes for a very nice romantic evening. Ideally, you should plan to reach by 6pm, take a tour of the fort, check out the museum they have, and then finish off with the dinner.

I don't remember how much it costs, but it's obviously a little on the higher side.

Foodlink (rooftop restaurant in ICC bldg B, Senapati Bapat Road) is a decent option. Amazing view and not too much crowd in their Italian resto. Its a bit costly though (900-1200 per head).

Laguna/Exotica (Yerawada) can also arrange a quiet corner for you (if you reserve in advance). They are also a rooftop resto - so nice ambiance, and food is also good. Cost - 800-100 per head.

I would also second Gaia in Mundhwa - amazing ambiance. Cost - 700-800 per head.

Golden Palms (after Bhakti-Shakti, Nigdi) is a nice place for a romantic evening. On the right hand side, they have a small hut-type arrangement specially for couples (candlelight dinner). Do try Seafood here. veg dishes are also good. Cost for two - around Rs. 700~800.

Hotel Nivaant (Bavdhan) is a good location. Food quality not very great; but very much within budget. Less rush than Bavdhan Chowpaty.

Hotel Madhuban (Sinhgad Road, After Panshet crossing) is a quiet and nice place to spend time at. Food quality is good and cost for two would be around Rs. 600~700 max. Not advisable for late dinner though (you'll have to drive much and roads are not good); but best pick for afternoon/evening visit.

Galaxy Grill in Aundh has a rooftop setting. Comfy cushions, light music, great food, nice views. http://www.sadakmap.com/p/Galaxy-Grill/

But please make sure you see the comments about Galaxy Grill at this question: forpune.com/questions/183/… The bill might kill the romantic mood. – Navin Kabra Dec 11 at 7:25

I like Pancard Clubs in Baner. The setting is nice and quiet, the view's good, the food is excellent, the service is slow, and the prices are average.

Disclaimer: It's been a while since I had a nice quiet romantic dinner with the wife :)

+1 if your idea of romantic dinner involves Margaritas, because they make pretty decent ones that are ridiculously cheap at Rs. 130 per glass. – Navin Kabra Dec 11 at 10:22
I guess you need to be a member there, right? – Amit Paranjape Dec 17 at 17:03

You CANNOT (and I repeat - CANNOT) go wrong with a little Italian Restaurant called Squisito. It has the perfect ambience for a romantic evening. Dim lighting, candle lit dinner, great service and good, soft music.

Have been there thrice and haven't been disappointed ever. Perfect ambience and terrific food.

The management is very supportive too - they were very helpful in helping me setup dinner for a special evening :)

Food for two could go upto Rs. 1,500 with that glass of wine.

Location: Koregaon Park, near Great Punjab and below the Talwalkar Gym

Food is Italian and purely vegeterian with option to "Jain" quite a bit of the menu.

But tables here are quite close to each other... you can't get privacy. Food is quite good though. – cuteaditi Dec 28 at 10:34

Le Meridien has this restaurant called Spice Island which serves Chinese / South Asian Cuisine.

It was listed as the "Most Romantic Ambience" restaurant in the 2008 issue of the Times Food Guide.

Had a dinner there once - and I feel Times Food Guide got it correct. The ambience was awesome. Dim lighting, candle-lit, center piece on the table etc (the works) and they also have live music with a couple singing on the platform with the ability to request songs.

However, prepare to shell out atleast Rs. 2500+ for a decent meal for two (without alcoholic drinks) Worth it -- for that special, special meal.

Food wasn't something to write home about - but I have been guilty of ordering the wrong dishes.

+1 for Spice Island. Been there couple of times. Great place and great food. Little expensive. – Sarika Phatak Dec 14 at 4:48
+1 for Spice Island. Here's my review from a year back: aparanjape.wordpress.com/2008/10/10/… – Amit Paranjape Dec 17 at 17:04
