Find a Marathi friend who would spend some time with you, talking and explaining in Marathi. Supervised application of words/phrases in practical use, will speed up learning process. E.g. visit a hotel or store with Marathi-speaking friend (supervisor), and try to communicate with attendants/servers in Marathi. I have been doing this and willing to assist.

Marathi is not much different from hindi. You may find it difficult to understand when people are talking around you, but sit and rtead some marathi texts and you'll bnotice the vast similarities in marathi and hindi.By marathi school text book of maharashtra board to start off with the basics. Then you can proceed on with reading essay books (school level). Still the best way to learn is from practicing it. tell your marathi friends to speak marathi whenever around you .People around you will find it funny in the beginning but i assure you, you'll notice a considerable improvement within a month. All the best :)
