There used to be an access from Pashan road, opposite DRDO, which seems unavailable for civilians these days. An alternate route is from Pashan-Sus road,reaching the side of the lake near Bangalore highway (Mumbai-Pune bypass road in yahoo map), at Sutarwadi. There are signs to reach Sutarwadi from Pashan-Sus road, and you can park near the Shiv temple. A lot of ducks used to prefer this side of the lake.

Early mornings in winter used to be good time from the DRDO side. Not sure what the best time is on the other side of the lake.
