when you say "act on stage," in pune it usually ends up being a band playing at some venue.

  • high spirits on fridays
  • hard rock cafe on thursdays
  • 1st brewhouse (doolally) on fridays
  • curve on wednesdays (sister venue 'arc asia' also has performances once in a while)
  • not just jazz by the bay

the poona music society (http://www.poonamusicsociety.com/) has western classical performances at least 2x a month, usually at mazda hall, camp. the pune jazz club has it's performances at shisha cafe (the only venue which prominently promotes this genre of music in pune).

recently, a couple of venues have experimented with stand-up comedians, but seems due to lack proper promotion, it hasn't been able to garner a good response.

plays in marathi are frequent at venues like kala krida manch, etc. plays in english are by far less. there are quite a few art galleries in the city, some of which do try and organize workshops, etc but otherwise engagement is very low. comparatively, malakka spice is doing way better in terms of selling art directly.

every 2rd thursday, Shamiana Shorts is organized at Ishanya (earlier it was hosted at High Spirits). they screen about 6 short movies (including animations, music videos, ads), that the panel receives as entries from around the world.

if you're just looking for a venue to chill out and have a beer/hookah, the above mentioned venues are good options and won't disappoint.

There is laser show and live band at Ishanya Mall on Sunday evenings. Its worth a watch. Besides, there are various food counters and interesting kiosks like temporary tattoo around the live band. Worth giving a visit once.

Also, maybe these could be useful :

If you like beer, then Doolally is a great place to hang out. Used to have live bands from time to time in the past - not sure if they still do that, but nevertheless a nice place to hang out.
