All the major consumer electronics shops in Pune, e.g. Chroma, Vijay Sales, etc. stock them. As the adoption is not yet at critical mass, the range of models you will find is selected only. I personally had bought a IFB one and its doing a good job, though later I thought the racks design could have been slightly better. As for customer service, I think IFB had done a decent job though I did not have much of a need for it.

Edit: After you have bought one, keep in mind that availability of dishwasher supplies like detergent/powder, salt, rinse aid is not easy to find in Pune. However to save you time, one place where you will readily find them is at Dorabjee's (for those not sure about its location, opp SGS mall on Moledina Rd in Camp area).

Thanks a lot MxC for the reply. For the water supply, which would be the best? Corporation water or the bore well - hard water? We live in an apartment, where there is only one inlet and outlet provision with corporation water, which we have used for washing machine.

Well, I've both supplies in mine and I'm not sure at the moment. I'll confirm it and update here later.

  1. The dishwasher, far from being the vacuum-cleaner-like white elephant I expected, is actually very useful. Life saver when the maid bunks. I hate washing dishes.
  2. In this case, IFB > Siemens. The rack design of the IFB is better for Indian workloads.
  3. I got the highest-but-one model of IFB. You will only be using one setting on a regular basis, so a number of fine/super-fine/la-di-dah options are pretty useless. It's not like you're going to wash babies in there.
  4. The salt is there to deal with hard water. So you can go ahead and fix it to bore water without a problem. We have been running the IFB for about 2 years on hard water, no issues.
  5. IFB dealer (at least the one on Bhau Patil road) will home-deliver soap, rinse-aid and salt. I buy six-months supply at once. They sent me a spam SMS just as my supplies were running low, offering to deliver at home, thus proving that the age of miracles is at hand. (Useful spam SMS. Really! Who'd have thunk it? Now if you'll excuse me, I have to attend to an important business communication from MRS MARIAM ABACHA, relict of the late GEN SANI ABACHA.)

Please think again before considering IFB. Durability is extremely poor. Ours needed dozens of service visits when it was new. Finally they replaced it. Now even the new one's PCB is causing the machine to malfunction. Strangest thing is that the machine has been very sparingly used (once a week or so, or when the maid bunks).

IFB is selling very poor quality products so that they can milk money thru expensive spares and service contracts. This is not at all a durable product, is very expensive to keep running and is unreliable (will remain non-functional for days while they attempt to fix it).

Read the tons of complaints online about IFB before cosidering.

That said, it is not advisable to use borewell water just because it has a softner! Use municipility water, test it for hardness and set the softner accordingly.
