What shops/dealers would you suggest for serious photography enthusiast to buy equipment like SLR cameras, lenses, filters, camera bags, tripods and other related accessories? I only know about Camshots, Aundh but for now i have to rely largely upon friends getting stuff from abroad (US and/or singapore/dubai)

For SLR equipment I agree to Navin's reference towards the neighboring metro.
While I am not a fan of JJMehta, I think its a good place for tracking local price approximations.

You would then typically compare these with converted Dollar prices from the US.
This helps taking a call to purchase locally or import.
Usually, in my case, accessories is import and Camera body 'could' be local.

I use a Nikon kit and have checked Camshot and the Bajirao Road place for small things -- both are good.

In Bombay, there is DSLR Zone which should be checked out for Nikon.
You will find some more shops at D.N.Road in general.
Meanwhile, these days I find Chroma also has quite a lot of the running models (Uh, don't go by what is on that link)

For all Canon stuff you can go to United Peripherals (Canon Xperience gallery) on FC Road. For small accessories visit Mahaveer Photo on Bajirao Road. There is also one more shop near babu Genu Chowk (mandai), you can get filters and other nik-naks there. I would never recommend Camtosh coz of his bad treatment to customers. Best place to shop for such accessories is Mumbai.

Actually, the best photography shop for Pune is in Bombay. JJMehta.

It has a very good, very details website, with all the specs, and prices listed. Find what you want, call them up on the phone, pay by credit card and they'll courier it to you in Pune. They have been around for 50 years, very good reputation, very good service, and great prices. I know many people who get things couriered from them without any problems.

I am not sure I agree with the great prices part. I think they maybe priced OK but certainly not cheap! I remember surveying that site multiple times for buying both cameras and camera equipment and never was ok with their pricing.

Of course, one has to agree that they have the largest set of high end photography equipment. So that is certainly and advantage!
