It's the expensive season. As the costs for necessities are skyrocketing it is becoming very difficult to go out and shop. Specially the vegetables, the vegetable prices in Aundh, Baner, Balewadi areas are way too high. Where can punekars shop for cheap vegetables? |

Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, widely known as 'mandai'. Near shanipar. |

Drive down to Talegaon for the Sunday market. At least 25-50 % cheaper. Seriously, is this really worth doing? Factor in cost of fuel, and your own time (yes, your time is worth quite a lot, per hour) - aren't you better off simply paying the Aundh prices?

By 'you' I mean anybody reading this page, not @ankurp! And my comment applies to the Talegaon and Market Yard suggestions. Khadki and Pashan seem reasonable.

I meant going every Sunday. And you also get cheaper grains etc at Talegaon. Good for stocking up for a week or month or more.

Shivaji market, near camp. Not just the prices, but also variety. You can find "firang" stuff like zucchini, broccoli and the likes of that too |

Actually depending on where you live and your proximity to Food Bazaar, I would suggest that probably the most practicable alternative to buying discounted vegetables is Big/Food Bazaar. Just as an example: If onion is Rs.30/- per kg in your local grocery store, there is a good chance that Big Bazaar would be selling it at Rs.20-22 a Kg. That holds true for MOST vegetables. However there is a big caveat - most of the times vegetables in Food Bazaar have to be carefully selected to ensure that you get good ones. Other large stores like Reliance/More/Spencers etc. are usually more expensive than Food Bazaar though they are likely to be slightly cheaper than your local grocery store. |
