SeventyMM billing is sloppy to say the least, I am not sure if anyone have experienced the same, but having paid for 4 months in advance, I would get a guy on door everymonth asking for money.

Frankly, in my opinion, there's no good Netflix like service in Pune/India at this point of time. Your options are - Local DVD Rental Libraries (many provide home delivery), Reliance BigFlix (haven't tried them myself..I think they are trying to follow the Netflix model...). Agreed. And for local DVD rental libraries, I think the best option in aundh/baner/shivajinagar area is DVDExpress. Great collection, and home delivery/pickup.

When did DVD Express start home delivery/pick? That wasn't there earlier... I agree that their collection is excellent. However, their prices for rental for 24hrs @ Rs.80/- is actually on the higher side. I think they should have a tiered pricing for more recent movies vs. older movies.

I am still looking for an answer to this question! I have bookmarked BigFlix, SeventyMM, CrazyTalkies and now MovieMart. The first 3 let you keep a movie only for 3 days or so and still advertise "No late fees"! The last one ships DVDs from Delhi which will lead to additional delays and hassles. What I am looking for is NetFlix like service that lets me keep the DVDs as long as I want (at least a couple of weeks in case I do not get time to watch). Other than that, I think BigFlix comes the closest with an excellent website and selection (esp Marathi movies). Does DVD express have an online presence? DVD Express does not have any online presence.

I'm sorry - having looked through the options provided and having been an avid user of Netflix, I can definitely state - NONE of the websites even come close in terms of the range of selection that Netflix has. If you're a movie buff or filmmaker like myself, I can assure you the quality of titles on all of these websites (after browsing each one of their libraries in detail) - I would say these sites are a little closer to the Blockbuster model - lots of mainstream movies and titles that are commonly believed to be popular stacked in a location where the seller seems to know little or nothing about movies and just looks at it from a commercial standpoint and nothing else - not the idea of just spreading GOOD movies & having a healthy balance of commercial and award-winning rare films. I really hope Netflix itself somehow makes its way to India - at least then perhaps we will all have the opportunity to have the freedom to expose ourselves to everything. Until then we're stuck with this downloaded website template-looking incomplete crap... I really wish one of the movie rental companies read this and try to make a radical change. It will only happen if some movie buff backs it and not just look at turning a quick buck. THOSE are the companies that will last. |
