Many recipes need cooking chocolate slabs. Anyone can point to where i can buy chocolate slabs? |

There is an 'Agarwal' store in Shukrawar peth, which stocks Morde cooking choc slabs. I hv used Morde and is very good for making choc deserts/ cakes/ toppings etc. There is another shop in camp, but unfortunately can't recall the name :-(. |

We found them at Dorabjees(Near MG Road, Pune Camp) today. "Dorabjess" store brand.

Dorabjees was particularly an anticlimax :(. We went yesterday, but there was only milk chocolate and white chocolate. no dark chocolate. What you saw as "dorabjees" brand was actually Morde, and the price tag was at least 30% higher.

okay, yesterday evening, i bought MORDE choco slabs from a shop called "Lalit" on Kumthekar road. It is in front of the stock exchange building Dark chocolate compound cast me Rs80 for 500g and milk chocolate compound was priced at Rs90. I also bought mold for Rs 22. Hope to make some home made chocolates now! Arati, For making home-made chocolates, see if you can get 'SELBOURNE' brand. Supposed to be better for chocs, and for desserts, choc sauce etc. Morde is better. - aparna.

We went yesterday, but there was only milk chocolate and white chocolate. no dark chocolate. What you saw as "dorabjees" brand was actually Morde, and the price tag was at least 30% higher. Well I do not belong to Pune, but I can help you know what chocolate slabs (componds) are for... Well am not an expert to answer this but I can tell you what I use them for ... Well the main use is definitely to make chocolates ... you have to get the slabs melted in a boiler (DO NOT give direct heating at all) or in a microwave, then the liquid form of the compound is poured in the desired moulds to give it a form of proper chocolate piece. Chocolate slabs basically has 3 compounds... 1. Dark compound (bitter in taste) for those who like the bitter side of chocolates 2. Milk compound (very much like dairy milk) 3. White compound (very sweet in taste) Kids like it more compared to elders. One more important thing, there are types of slabs available, a few are meant for bakery (cakes & pastry) these are not advised for chocolate making because they do not melt properly. As in they do not attain a proper liquid form which is a must, so that it could be easily poured in the moulds. Once you attain the liquid form of these compounds you can add you desired dry fruits or jelly ... anything ... you can even try pouring dark compound on fresh strawberries (and then refrigerate it) Its the best thing you can have after dinner. I hope my explanation was of some help to you ladies. |

Hmm..'chocolate slabs' sound very tempting :) What exactly are these? Are you referring to Chocolate Fudge?
This is chocolate in the form which can be used for recipes. I am not sure if you can just chew off chocolate from the slab and eat! Maybe you can. But you are supposed to add things, or add this to other things to make your intended recipe
