Pu La Deshpande was a legend. The entire Marathi world (and many non-Marathi speakers as well) are indebted to him for his literary contributions. Few months back there was a debate on naming the Pune - Mumbai Expressway (Yeshwantrao Chavan vs. Pu La Deshpande). YB Chavan as also a great son of Maharashtra, and the intent of this question is not to resurrect that debate. Was wondering what other great ideas you can think of, to remember Pu La, in his home town Pune. (Memorials, Roads, Competitions, Awards, etc.). Please add details. And if your suggestion is already listed, please vote up, instead of adding a new answer. Trying a crowd-sourcing experiment. I have also provided a few answers to get started.

A nice new cultural center memorial (like Tilak Smarak Mandir) in Pune that will have a theater and a museum showcasing his great works and memories.

The best way to remember him and pay tribute to him would making available his work to non Marathi world also. Not many of his books have been translated into other languages. Can we do something abt it?

+1 for cultural center..but naming the airport after him will only work if the authorities properly maintain the airport & area around it..at this moment i don't trust the authorities to do that..in which case it will just create a bad name!

A Community driven organization/group named after him etc.. where anyone interested in literature & plays etc... are nurtured and given a platform to display their talents so we can produce future P.Ls!!

by increasing sense of humour!!!!!!by producing dramas.one act plays,which are full of pu.la. style comedy ,and not vulgar one.scope to actors like jitendra joshi. overall talented comedy based on day today activities,politicians(mayavati,lalu yadav)andso on.

He was a very versatile artist, actor, writer, composer,he played harmonium, in his writings also he showed variety, his characters are now immortal in marathi minds,so a youth festival in pune which has competitions for young artists, from colleges, groups, participating and competing in all activities including all those elements, music, drama, literature will be a great tribute.
