Hi,

I am looking for a psychiatrist in pune who can provide therapy to treat fear of darkness and fear of ghost/monsters in darkness. Can anyone recommend one?

I believe there is a sliding scale. Same docs charge as per our Indian considerations as per the paying capacity or the lack of it of the patient. Navin,u sure u r talking abt Psychiatrist and not Psychoanalyst. I believe sessions with Psychiatrists are much shorter. Dr Bhooshan might be an exception since he seems to have learnt both.

Bagdu, you're right. A typical psychiatrist session can be as short as 15/20 minutes. Sometimes, especially if patient has visited after a long time, or in case of complex cases, or if some behavioral therapy or counselling is being done, it can go longer. I've updated my comment to reflect this.

If this is an adult, a few books could be suggested after some initial discussions.
An older work by Carl Sagan called The Demon-Haunted World pops up in my mind.
Also available as an audio book -- to motivate reading the actual work.
If you are not acquainted with this book, look up the wikipedia link above for details.

Science as a Candle in the Dark!

The book is intended to explain the scientific method to laypeople, and to encourage people to learn critical or skeptical thinking. It explains methods to help distinguish between ideas that are considered valid science, and ideas that can be considered pseudoscience. Sagan states that when new ideas are offered for consideration, they should be tested by means of skeptical thinking, and should stand up to rigorous questioning.

If this is a child you are referring to here,
some one-on-one discussions and patience would also help.
Some inspiration could be taken from this book too.

wondering if it would be impolite to enquire about the fee.On the lighter side, that might fob off some fear.

I've seen fees range from Rs. 300 to Rs. 750 per session. A session will be 20 minutes to an hour (depending upon the situation). The 300 is for psychiatrists that I wouldn't really recommend. (I have been unfortunate enough to have experienced some bad ones in Pune & Nashik, including "senior" ones who are well known and well regarded.) – Navin Kabra 11 hours ago

@Navin: Have you or any of your acquaintance visited any of the above listed doctors? I want to know first hand review comments. IMO, a bad psychiatrist can ruin the case further.
