Is Pune a metro?

That apart, I think the only thing that I can think of, and which is rapidly changing for worse too, is the ability to get home after work in reasonable amount of time.

The other thing is overall safety, and not so significant mass violence.

Officially it is not a metro, but unofficially it is.

  • Proximity to Mumbai
  • Good educational institutions
  • Proximity to "tourist" places like Konkan, Mahabaleshwar (whole Sahyadri range), etc

  1. Pune is steeped in a rich tradition and culture that is rarely seen in other cities.
  2. Pune has a large number of MNC's (besides IT) that have setup shop in the city. Hence a very diverse Engineering Community is located here.
  3. Pune has a very good sports culture. Again a rarity in other cities.
  4. Pune has some pretty well known hospitals to boast of some of which might rank amongst the best in the country.
  5. Pune has pretty decent schools for kids and hence may quality as a good city to bring up kids. There are also many kids activities that are available in Pune that are within easy reach.

1) Good weather 2) Proximity to Mumbai and good connectivity to Mumbai (and therefore the int. airport) 3) Good infrastructure when compared to some other cities (Although a long way to go though) 4) Good mix of IT, Manufacturing & trading companies. 5) Good educational institutions 6) Quality Healthcare 7) Cost of living lower than metros (although still fairly pricey) 8) Affordability of homes compared to Mumbai/ Delhi, etc.
