Sabudana Kichadi is quite popular in Pune and is available at many places - regular restaurants as well as small 'tapris'. One problem I have noticed though - at many places, the availability is limited to certain 'Upwaas' (Fasting) days..typically Mon-Thurs-Sat and other big 'Upwaas' days (e.g. Kartiki Ekadashi). Please list your recommendations. Also, if possible list the days when its available. If your answer is already present, please do not repeat - instead UpVote it. You can always add your comments to that answer. |

'Appa's Canteen' This small shack outside the Deccan Gymkhana Club is as iconic old place (around since the 1930s..). Not in a very well maintained condition, but they have one of the most amazing Sabudana Kichadi! Recommended that you get it with 'Kakdi'. As mentioned in the question above, availability is restricted to Mon-Thurs-Sat and big 'Upwaas' days. I was not too impressed with the khichadi there. Very dry and too much groundnut.

This place is immediately after the Deccan Gymkhana main gate. You will miss it if you do not know that it exists. I liked the "KhiKa" (Khichadi-Kakadi) as they call it.

'Janaseva'on Laxmi Road, opp. Gokhale Hall is another old favorite. Availability restricted to some days (not sure - if anyone has details, please add the info below as comments). 'Janaseva' is also very well known for its 'Kharvas'. I think it is available everyday, but for limited time (as with everything in Janaseva) BTW, recently, Janaseva changes it's weekly off from Wednesday to Monday. So nowdays, Janaseva is closed on Monday

'Sharvari' (fastfood restaurant of Hotel 'Shabree' that is famous for Maharashtrian Thali..) - located near Tukaram Paduka Chowk..intersection of F.C. Road and Ghole Road. I think the availability here is on all 7 days. Nice A/C restaurant that has many other Maharashtrian snacks (e.g. Thalipeeth, Zunka-Bhakri, etc.) |

Amit - I don't know how to do that in this portal. Where is the link to add comment to a question, rather than a answer.

the best sabudana khichdi i've had in pune was during the last sawai gandharva in one of those makeshift stalls. i find janaseva a bit uneven - sometimes it is good, sometimes on the greasier side. janaseva is great for its badami milk too. khichadi above everything needs to be hot. |
