I would be moving at the end of next month to Pune. I have 2 questions,

1) what would be the approximate cost and company used

2) Does it make sense to bring the 46" HDTV from US

any previous experience would be deeply appreciated

Thanks in Advance

I thought this question was asked here before. Can you search and extend that question?

Are you asking about the complete move, or just moving the TV?

Regarding the complete move - I used sky2c (sky2c.com) Cost will be in the range of 5-7K USD for a full 20 ft container, door to door. (Note this was nearly 3 years back..check with Tarun Tandon at Sky2C for latest details).

I know many folks who moved their flat-screen (plasma/LCD) TV here from the US. Came through ok (packed by professional packers and movers). Some TVs in US are still not multi-system, so you might need to buy a PAL-NTSC converter (available on Amazon..model: Altona..Price around 150 USD).

There is still no HD broadcasts here (and none planned in the forseeable future). Having said that, most all flat-screen TVs now available in India are also HD ready! Guess you can use them to watch Blu-Ray discs, if you want HD!

I had used WorldWide Shipping and found them quite good. Their packaging folks in US were excellent. Delivered to my India address about 6-8 weeks after the package was shipped. Received everything in good condition. They have offices in major cities of India. They responded to my email queries as well - though not very promptly. Cost (long while back) was approx $5k for the full container.

Regarding getting electronic goods from US - I would suggest against it. The risks are high, shipping charges are not worth it and most things can be bought in India. The biggest thing IMO is that, your US warranties don't count in India. So buying in India is better.

Cant directly answer the question about purchasing a TV in Pune. I would be concerned about the possible damage to the TV in transport from the US to India. More so for plasma TVs.
